Children & Young People
Empowering children and young people to make healthy lifestyle choices by using innovative and creative child-led approaches and supporting multi-agency partnerships to meet children and young people’s needs in line with Every Child Matters
The Children & Young People section of this site focuses on the range of initiatives the Health Improvement & Development Service provides aimed at improving the health & wellbeing of Portsmouth's younger age groups.
Healthy well-nourished children learn better and achieve more at school. Encouraging young people to be healthy and concerned about maintaining their health, can lead to a strong sense of personal worth, and a feeling that they are valued members of their communities.
We aim to support young people before, during and after their school days through healthy eating initiatives, child safety programmes and adolescent health projects. We support Young Carers through the Carers Centre, we have a team dedicated to supporting pregnant and parenting teenagers, and are working with schools and other agencies in Portsmouth on food and health, obesity, smoking, alcohol, substance misuse, sexual health and self-esteem issues with young people.
