Chinese Falls Prevention Video

A successful bid to Help the Aged secured funding to develop a Falls Prevention video working with and for Chinese elders.
 
A dialogue was started with a group of elders from the Chinese Lunch Club and it quickly became clear that their preferred medium for getting across the falls prevention message was through video. This would ensure that the message was accessible to those people with literacy problems.
 
The video shows a number of falls that the elders had experienced and tells how, with a few simple precautions, they could have been avoided.
 
The video also highlights the importance of regular exercise and a healthy diet. Input from the PCT ensured clinical accuracy.
 
A large number of Chinese elders in the city have seen the video and have commented favourably on the directness and simplicity of the content. The video has also been distributed to other parts of the country and is available in both DVD and VHS formats at a cost of £10 per copy.
